What was your path to becoming a mental health provider?

My journey into mental health counseling was shaped by personal experiences. Growing up with an alcoholic father and navigating my parents’ divorce, I moved across multiple states, learning resilience and the importance of support. As a school counselor for many years I loved being there for my students but I quickly realized that much of my job became centered administrative tasks rather than the meaningful support I wanted to provide. I saw students struggling with issues beyond academics, but I wasn’t able to help in the way they truly needed. That realization is what ultimately led me to take the leap and start my own practice. To create a space where I can offer support to women of all ages.

What should someone know about working with you?

I strive to create a safe, comfortable, and supportive space where women feel heard, valued, and understood. As a counselor, I am patient, kind, and empathetic—qualities shaped by my experiences as a school counselor, wife, mother, and woman navigating life’s challenges. During the intake process, I take the time to truly listen and understand each client’s unique journey. Progress looks different for everyone, but I focus on helping women build resilience, self-awareness, and practical coping strategies in a judgment-free environment.

How do you continue learning and building new skills?

I believe that being an effective counselor means committing to lifelong learning and personal growth. I continuously challenge myself to improve—not only as a professional but also in my own life—so I can better support my clients. I attend conferences, participate in continuing education courses, and stay up to date on the latest research in mental health. I also read books on self-awareness, personal development, and therapeutic techniques to deepen my understanding. Most importantly, I practice what I preach, applying these insights to my own life.
